Upcoming Releases
Just so you folks know..
There are quite a few exciting things in the works right now.. unfortunately, many of them are very fluid and changing constantly so not a lot can be announced just yet. Keep watching and hopefully we'll be able to bring some details in the not-too-distant future.
Obviously, our plans for the Deluxe Horrendous Disc had been thrown off track by the death of Larry Norman, but the good news is that there is actually still a chance that something will materialize. In terms of digging up potential bonus material, things have been moving along remarkably well. One key set of tapes were recently "rediscovered." Thats a big relief to everyone involved.

Color me clueless. I did not know Larry Norman had died and its been almost a year.

Cool.

Fluidity is good.

RE: Upcoming Releases
Sometimes I kind of wonder about the back story of like "rediscovered" tapes. I guess it could be kind of complex -- there could have been material in the possession of any of the 6 band members at the time and even perhaps at a parents house (they were on the road alot back then). Or perhaps any other personnel around at that time.
I was going to present some idle speculation but I won't. It will be an interesting release -- and all this talk of re-found tapes will make us wonder what was left off the final release.

From experience, a lot of these guys have tons of tapes packed away in basements, garages, storage units, closets, and friends houses. Sometimes its a matter of cleaning out boxes in the garage and stumbling across a tape that was once lost. The tape used for the Daniel Amos 30th Ann. Edition was actually 'found' at an old friends house, where it was probably recorded back in like '73. There are also situations where tapes are stored by labels themselves.
Half the time, the old reels don't even have proper labeling as to what is on them. My brother and I store a big chunk of reels for Terry, as do a couple of other guys, and its amazing as to how little is actually written on them. Sometimes its rather cryptic, early names of songs and stuff.
Terry said Stonehill has tons of unreleased stuff just sitting in a garage somewhere.
There is also a lot of redundancy, you might have several reels of multitracks for Shotgun Angel, then like 5 master reels made from the multitracks. The 5 master reels might or might not list what songs are on them, or even if it is a good master.
I know a couple of situations occured where for example, the Greenroom was shut down and people had to just go in and grab all the tapes. So you might have some storage of unsorted stuff from various periods mixed in.

This is totally off topic, but I want to thank you Mr. Audiori J for the Robert Frost quote. I do a devotional for High School coaches and teachers on Thursday mornings and I used your Robert Frost signature quote as a discussion starter.

This is also totally OT, but are you really from Biscoe?
I had the privilege of being stuck in Biscoe for 3 days with my dad & stepmother 29 years ago, our truck having broken down on the way back to Southern Illinois from Hector. Quite the bustling metropolis - the local VFW is not to be missed!

As mentioned in another thread... looks like we're very close to finalizing a deal to bring back at least four albums as Deluxe Reissues with bonus material. The timing is still a little uknown for some of it, but obviously there is a desire to get something out before the tour.
There is some very cool bonus material being considered also.. should be very fun. Still digging into all of that though.
Stay tuned!

I just realized the first post in this thread is two years old. I guess these things just take time. Lots and lots of time. I wish I had more patience....
I look forward to the re-issues, any clue on what albums they might be?

Well some of it was the Terry Taylor Swine Before Pearl series, which took some time because Terry moved. But there was also some things going on with Horrendous Disc and some other things that are happening but we don't have control over when. And there is the Return To Neverhood project. And now a DA tour.

Part of what I was talking about at that time was Arena Rock. There had been a chance that they were going to go on and do some other reissues beyond Darn Floor. It didn't really pan out obviously, but it looked very promising at the time.
There were other things swirling around at the time also, like Jason mentioned. Unfortunately, one thing changing your plans can affect a dozen other things like dominoes falling over.
This new deal for reissues is brand new however. Three of the titles are somewhat settled on, one is still up in the air a little bit. We've been digging up some potential bonus material for a while... some of it is really cool.

How did DFBB do, sales-wise? I'm guessing that there would have been more reissues from Arena Rock if it had performed as well as they thought. But, that doesn't mean it didn't sell.

Sold great for us and its still selling pretty well through the DA store. I don't really know overall totals since many were sold through regular stores. Like most companies when sales start to die off, they had some to sell off.. but it wasn't huge numbers. I get the sense that it just wasn't what they had expected.

I am waiting to discover what these rereleases might be. A piece of me is hoping for Motorcycle even though I have Motorcycle tracks and I do have the original CD, but I do not have it with all its original artwork. The guy I got it from threw away all his cases with the back covers still in them. I got my Little Red Riding Hood CD the same way. So I have great music, but am missing the total package. I am still a total backage guy--I guess that is why the MP3 age just does not satisfy.
The only other CD I am missing is Fearful Symmetry. I have the Alarma version, which is all the music, but once again I do not have the whole package.
I would love to see the complete Horrendous disc. I have the original from Solid Rock on disc and on LP. I wish I had a record player so I could hear the original mix again. I understand my CD version was not done as well as it could have been. I deeply desire whatever extras are available too. The two Larry Norman mixes of Hound of Heaven just don't measure up to the quality of the rest of the record.
Here is dreaming of all possible futures.

We've been finalizing the bonus disc for the biggest of the three reissues we've been working on.... Personally, I think its the best reissue we've done so far.. lots of cool photos and vey unusual, historical and good quality bonus material. We're also supposed to be getting some extra "liner notes" for the website as well as possibly some special downloads for anyone that buys it.
Hopefully, a full announcement is not too far off.

I'll take one! I'll even buy another copy of MBD since it will have complete lyrics and "Nowhere is Someplace" (which really deserves release as 7").
