For U2/DA Fans..
Notice anything?

That's kinda cool.

Cool! Where did you find that?
Posted by audiori on 03-01-2010 at14:18:
Heard about it for years... finally found it in the book "U2 by U2." Theres apparently a bunch of pictures from this same shoot. The book has several others of the entire band but the button is always obscured.. by Bono's arm, or by text or graphics on the page.
If anyone can find any of the other images (without the text or graphics), please post them here.

Very cool!

Is that an official Daniel Amos pin? Or does "DA" mean something else in this case?
Posted by audiori on 03-01-2010 at17:32:
Looks like the official DA font & colors...

Super duper.

You know... early 80s, the only place to get the pin would of been to order one from the band or be at a concert. My bet would be on Greenbelt or something like that.

I'm no U2 expert, but didn't those guys go to church together as kids? It doesn't surprise me too much that they knew about DA.
Does the book give any details about the picture? (Like when it was taken).

well, they did tour the u.s. back then....
two of my favorite bands...

The book doesn't really say anything about the photo... at least not that I can find so far. It could be that theres a hidden photo credit text somewhere on a different page or something... still looking. Was hoping to find it so maybe it would help track down some of the other photos from this shoot. The book itself has dozens of these photos but they're really tiny or obscured in some way. Grrr..
Apparently Terry's never seen it before.. he thought it was pretty cool. Tom said he hadn't even heard about it which I'm a little surprised about. For years its been like that Keaggy "Hendrix/Greatest Guitarist" story... everyone knows a friend or has a relative that has a copy but no one can seem to produce one.

Yeah but hard to imagine U2 at a small US DA concert, could happen, but I still would imagine it being at a huge festival.

In the picture they are at a castle... might be able to find the photoshoot based on that and the approximate year.
Posted by audiori on 03-01-2010 at23:29:
Its in the 1982-1983 time period according to the book.
Its very similar to the cover photo shoot for Unforgetable Fire, which was a little later of course. Adam's hair is the "biggest" give away to it being the correct photo shoot... in the "DA button" set, he has a frizzy 'fro thing.
I'd love to have a good shot of the full band with the button being visible for the site. A larger version of the tiny shot at the bottom of this image would be perfect. Theres also one of Bono and Larry together that would work also.

are those buttons still kicking around?
Posted by audiori on 03-02-2010 at00:00:
We have some replicas on CafePress.
I don't know of any large amount of vintage 1980s buttons hanging around...
