  Horrendous Disc: Cancel & Eat?

On the HORRENDOUS DISC album, I always thought it was interesting how the credits showed all of the songs as "(c)1980 Cancel & Eat." I guess "Cancel & Eat" was the "publishing company name" (or whatever the term would be) that the band was using at the time. Does anyone have any insights as to what this name means? It sounds like an inside joke of some kind.

Yes, I used to wonder about that. It's only on HD that this publisher name was used. Not on any other DA records or Larry Norman records.
One of our thousands of forum members MUST know the details...

If I remember that was Terry’s publishing at the time. But i might be wrong about that. I do know “Cancel” and “Eat your words” are synonymously related phrases.

This is direct from the horse's mouth (i.e. Terry Taylor) -- I asked him about this once many years ago when we were on tour together with The Lost Dogs. He told me that it came from the early days of Daniel Amos when they would arrive for a gig at some horrible depressing looking venue or church or wherever it was they were booked. As a sad sinking feeling would overcome all as they contemplated their inevitable fate, Terry would look over at the guys and say "Cancel and eat" and demand that Ed drive on to a restaurant before they booked it out of town to the next gig. Whether or not they ever actually went through with it is something you'll have to ask Terry yourself. Personally, I hope they did.

anyway back to more spiritual concerns... personally they should have said "cancel and eat" to Norman. I've never heard a more irresponsible and unChristlike treatment of a group of talented guys with a Good Message for the world than what transpired at Solid Rock with this album. DA was made of sterner stuff than I. It would not have been "love thy enemy" foremost on my mind had that happened to me. Frankly I do not agree that Norman deserves any of the accolades generous folks have given in his memory. He was a jerk and should have been called out for it.
