  Footprints

"Make some small enough to wear
Around our wrists, reminders there."

WWJD?

I'll tell you what Jesus wouldn't do. Jesus wouldn't print up millions of sweatshop junk trinkets and market them like Coke!

Money lenders in the temple lads.

WWJD take a big stick and open a serious can of whoop burro.

Make way for the delete bin of salvation.

It's funny but my Dad, a baptist minister, was trying to get me to quit listening to Christian Rock. I made him listen to "It Is Finished" and he shook his head. He said that the Gospel shouldn't be spread in the world's way. Then he floored me by saying,"What if I decided to make a Christian pornographic movie to reach the people who like that sort of thing?"

-we've talked about that too.... see Christian porn thread in the dump.... Shocked

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

The moment you have to charge for the product it's a business. Pure and simple. If it's to be a ministry, then give people access to the message for free.

I like a lot of Christian music and will pay to listen to music that I find personally affirming. I'd rather hear people shout out about Jesus, than hear people sing about getting into someone's pants.

But product has to move. Even our beloved small market bands have to have enough marketing muscle to pay the bills. They are artists, who speak about things that support us and make us think. But it didn't come free.

So why grey poop'on all over the Christian music industry for selling what the majority want to buy? It's like the old joke about reprinting "footprints" on everything you can cause people will buy it.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. I don't support everything that comes out, because I don't like a lot of the music out there - whether it's Christian or not. A non Christian boyband gets the same amount of airtime at my house as their Christian counterparts. None.

This reminds me of those conversations I'd have with my old musician friends years ago about "selling" out. Anything that was commercial was evil, and atonal crap was the sound a true artist strived for.

So here's to Petra, even without Louie. Here's to pretty boy MWS, who I like, and have listened to for years. Here's to a new Whiteheart album.

It's music, and if you like it support it, and if you don't - vote with your wallet and let it rot on the shelf.

If all artists would take Randy Stonehill's advice, they'd be in great shape, and so would we:

"Be radio-smart without being radio-stupid."

Amen, you hunka burning Christian love!!!!!!!!!!

listen, guys and gals..........music is a personal thing. We all have likes and dislikes.........and if you don't care for what you hear on Christian radio, you have CHOICES - turn it off, contact your local stations and TELL them, listen and maybe hear some pretty good stuff! I'll agree that much of Christian music on the market now is pretty crappy - but there are gems out there, and if you don't LISTEN now and then, you'll never hear them. People like Sara Groves, Pam Thum, Fernando Ortega, Michael Card......they've got some pretty DAmb good tunage on the airwaves. It doesn't have to be an "us versus them" kind of thing - like what you like, and support what brings you to your knees.

Prejudice is ugly in ALL things.............

"...Christian Rock...."

what an ugly topic. what is rock to you is easy listening to me, and is Musak to Mark...

i've never understood this whole discussion. if it's the style you like, listen to the lyrics. if the lyrics don't draw you closer to God, ditch 'em. and closer to God doesn't mean worship. it means that God is using that person to touch His bride. there are bands that don't say Jesus a lot that are Christ-ian, and there are bands (and preachers) that say "Jesus" all the time that are on a greased pole headed for hell.
"Christian Rock". do we now realize that 26 years ago DA and Uncle Rand and Keith Green and Norman were considered the Crucifieds, and Gaurdians, and mxpxs and ghoti hooks of our time?
it ain't the rock, it's the reason. it ain't the music, it's the Messiah. music will always Mountain Dew people off. CCM cuz of the compromise, and real CM cuz of the promise...

I Cor 1
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise ; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
