I'm still waiting to see if DA has a mission statement before I buy ANY of their music (except Shotgun Angel, which sounds like the Eagles, which is why it's so good!) |
That letter makes me laugh, every time.

Sorry. In the future, my posts will be more like early Stonehill, Keith Green, early Second Chapter, early Resurrection Band or early Jacobs Trouble

Yup. For her birthday a few years ago she wanted to see the Dogs.
So, we did. Now, everytime any of the dogs are in the area in any combination, we go, even if it's several hours away.
Her favorite: Gift Horse
We both sing the songs, and we switch between melody and harmony. We're music geeks.

I played LRRH for my wife when we were still dating and she said,
"Is this U2? I thought I liked U2, but I guess they kinda suck!"

When you said that, here's what I immediately thought of.
Happiness Pie

The Kids in the Hall are hilarious!

Gonna have to listen to this tomorrow on the way to work.
Posted by jiminy on 01-30-2008 at21:15:
I'll have to dig it out too- on TAPE!
( have it on CD of course)
..but am borrowing FILs Big ol Pick Up Truck..damb car problems..and all he has is a tape player.
-THe truck is bomb- 5 speed manual clutch (which I am horsepoop at)..so grinding and popping thru intersections- its a Ford 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive..so your lookin down on most everyone else..I'm a bit of a king.)
Should I just leave it in there after the weekend??
Posted by dennis on 01-30-2008 at21:35:
I have it on tape too
I wish I had it on Vinyl, but I don't think that ever happened.
Motorcyle would be cool on vinyl, too, as would MBD, Kalhoun and Songs of the Heart!
I'm gonna listen to it again tomorrow! (BibleLand that is!
)

Yeah, after the smoothness of Motorcycle, to hear Bibleland is somewhat jarring. It's not just the music, either. The lyrics reflect the rawness and roughness of the music, or vice versa. A few songs are barely listenable to me, including the title cut. But several grew on me with repeated play, as with DFBB.

I don't remember if there are any comments in the timeline on this or it it was on one of the DVD or CD interviews of Terry, but the difference between Motorcycle and Bibleland was very intentional. Motorcycle had a lot of production. Bibleland had minimal rehearsal, with a gritty live sound, much of which I think was recorded in single takes with minimal overdubbing. I like both probably equally well; it just depends what mood as to which I would pick to listen to first. Both are cassette conversions to MP3 for me.

The first time I listened to Bibleland I thought it was aweful. It sounded like a mess. But I played it a few more times and then all the sudden it just clicked and all the sudden I "got" it. Seems like albums that stretch me this way end up being my favorites.
Posted by Dr Rich on 07-07-2008 at20:27:
^Me too. With most of my favorite records, I don't "get them" right away, most of the time.
Posted by haveapez on 02-18-2009 at11:02:
Put me down as one more who has recently "gotten" this album. It seems like I'm always changing my mind to what my favorite DA album is, depending on my mood.

Strangely enough, I've always loved Bibleland. I'd be hard pressed to list one DA as a favorite. Right now, DFBB, has that honor- but it is only because it's so new to me.
