The Greatest Rock Band in History Is: Perhaps the Beatles... for me, at this time, the Who may be a close second. That Terry Taylor fella is pretty cool too...
The Album I Wore Out Growing Up Was: Probably the Beatles "Revolver" and anything by Keith Green

I agree! "Revolver" is the best album, ever!
Posted by Matt K on 01-23-2008 at20:47:
It sure is. Sgt Pepper is a great record and a lot of people hold it in high regards, but the psychedelia dates it a bit. I remember the first time I listened to Revolver... I think I was 14... I remember getting the distinct feeling that my life had changed........ or something to that effect.

Same way here. I prefer Revolver (and The White Album too) over Sgt Pepper. Both of those records have a timeless quality that Sgt Pepper does not have. Perhaps too many bands were "inspired" by Sgt Pepper in the 60's, so that the record sounds a bit more clichéd than the other two records.
Beck's "Mellow Gold" seems to have suffered from the same problem.

Matt and Dennis: I would suspect you both enjoy the performance of A Quick One, Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again from The Kids Are Alright - yes, no, maybe. After watching any of those it makes me long to be back in a band again. Aside from Revolver A Hard Days' Night is a favorite too. It has an energy that appeals to me.

You are correct Sir!
Posted by Matt K on 01-25-2008 at12:14:
I have not yet seen the kids are alright, but I have seen those live performances you are speaking of. I did recieve the "amazing journey" doc for christmas. Good stuff, but the interviews with some of the other celebrities bother me for some reason. (Particuliarly Noel Gallagher)
I have been incredibly fascinated with Moon's drumming style. Incredibly unique!
Posted by dennis on 01-25-2008 at12:32:
Run, do not walk.
Buy the Kids are alright! It is a must for any Who fan.
On the Double DVD set, you can watch the Ox play bass and tune out the rest of the band.
Very cool!
Posted by Matt K on 01-25-2008 at12:48:
No kidding...! Now, I have seen videos online of Entwistle playing "Baba O Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" with the rest of the band muted out, does the DVD have more tunes in that fashion?
Posted by dennis on 01-25-2008 at15:57:
No, that's pretty much it.
Still a very cool movie, fun to watch over and over.
Posted by THX1136 on 01-25-2008 at17:39:
Matt, would Amazing Journey be worth buying in your estimation? What Dennis said about TKAA is on the mark. Excellent film. I just wish there was a bit more of Entwistle interview wise. Obviously Pete is featured the most. I was fortunate enough to see the Who in 76 before Keith died and they were great. Toots and the Maytels opened and I felt sorry for them. The audience was not into the reggae they did as you can imagine.
Posted by dennis on 01-25-2008 at17:44:
I wish there was more of Entwistle too.
I also am curious about the Amazing Journey.
Posted by Matt K on 01-26-2008 at09:27:
I would say it is worth buying, yes.
Basicly it's a lot like the Beatles Anthology going back to the childhood days (cue black and white photos with a Glen Miller tune playing in the background) to the birth of the band right to the present. There's quite a few good concert clips, and some great stories. As I mentioned earlier the celebrity interviews are kinda silly (Sting, Eddie Vedder, Noel Gallagher) they pretty much all say the same thing.... "Man, that band is soo effing awesome. I effing love their effing music, great effing musicianship etc etc etc". My favorite quote was from Noel, to the effect of:
"Man, what the eff was up with Entwistle's skeleton costume? I mean, what the eff was up with that?"
What's really cool is the 2nd disc which contains a full concert of the band when they were known as "The High Numbers." Very very very cool and historical footage.
The Best Buy version comes with a 3rd disc containing a concert recorded in 1979 but I have yet to watch that one.
As a disclaimer however, I haven't yet seen the Kids are Alright doc, so the Amazing Journey might all out suck compared to TKAA.
