Each Dogs CD has something on it that is utterly indispensable... To list them would take up an awful lot of time. However, as a standard of completeness, Green Room Serenade does the best job in polishing every facet of the band from gut-bucket blues to rock 'n roll to the most sublime ballads.

"Waiting For You To Come Around" is such an epic song in that even though it is a subtle ballad, it sweeps you up entirely by the end. It's the longest Dogs tune and yet it takes you through with a lot of grace and you never are aware of length.

As much as I loved the Mercy River version, "Reasonable Service" is sing-along goodness. And if the topic is cover songs, I do believe that on many days I have to wonder who did the best Leonard Cohen redo - Jeff Buckley or The Dogs. Not that I plan to check out soon, but I want their version of "If It Be Your Will" played when they hoist my eternal Glad Bag over the cliffside.

Little Red Riding Hood may be a close second - However to deny "Eleanor, It's Raining Now"? But then again, what about "Smokescreen", "Rebecca Go Home" or "Only One Bum In Corona Del Mar"? Still, for that overall sense of strength from start to finish, it's gotta be GRS.

I would agree, but there are a couple tunes on GRS I have to skip.

I am listening to LRRH and GRS back to back and I may have to eat my words.

GRS is very good.

"Green Room Serenade does the best job in polishing every facet of the band from gut-bucket blues to rock 'n roll to the most sublime ballads."

There are both so good. Don't make me choose! Crying

So don't. It really is hard to choose which is the best. I would put LRRH at a very close 4th behind RMC, but only because RMC was the album I cut my teeth on. All of their music is so good it's hard to rank them. And some days, I would put LRRH before RMC or even GRS.

my faves are:
1 green room serenade, part one
2 green room serenade, part tour
3 real men cry

these are so close that i can't mention one without mentioning all three. as for my reasoning: just because it's what i like. i'm not your average person, so take my opinion as opinion. Tongue Cool

btw, i really like all of the dogs albums, even island dreams which most people didn't care for. Tongue

we are much cooler in the zeroes than we were in the 80s. Big Grin

yea, back in the 80s, i wore leg warmers and braided barrettes in the early 80s, and went to another extreme with the big hair in the late 80s. i though guys with big hair (not just long, i still like that) and makeup were soooooooo good looking. i think i got into every trend in the 80s. what were we thinking? i've met the dogs quite a few times. they are great to hang out with, but lets remember they are human. there is no need to idolize them or anyone else in the spotlight. Cool

I thought this was the more mature gathering place.

Tongue i've been thinking about dropping myspace, but not until i set up another place. an old friend of mine got in touch with me a few weeks back through myspace. i hardly go to myspace anymore, but it's nice to have a page.

yeah, me too. my excuse has been that i don't need one more thing, but if my friends all keep in touch with me through facebook, then i won't be using myspace, so it's more of a trade than an addition. i'm still thinking about it.
