I'm testing something with the Lost Dogs board.. you guys can find it at www.thelostdogs.com/post/
The board link on the main page of the site will also take you there at the moment.
Our boards are being targeted by porn & casino spamming bots, so I'm checking to see if changing the board address will fix it. It's hard to shake them lose because they're not registering to actually post - just create a user profile.

This seemed to work, but we might have an easier solution in the works.

It's now back to it's regular location at www.TheLostDogs.com/wbb2/
Board updates are in the works... should be some new and oddball options.. avatars might work for a change once its done.

Michaelroe and TheLostDogs boards are now updated fully... we're trying to decide what to do with this one and the 77s one. They're so old that updating is a much bigger problem with potential problems.... so we gotta decide what the best way to do it is. We'd like to get all four boards completely up to date with the newest versions.
This update should fix the problem with the spamming registrations totally.

Just a brief update. We are backing up everything we can for the 77s and DA boards before we try to do an update. The big problem with those boards is that it's jumping from a 2.1.X board to a 2.2.X board. The Dogs and MichaelRoe boards were created as 2.2.X boards so it was very simple.
Going from 2.1, to 2.2. is a big leap in coding and board structure. It's similar to when we originally updated this board from the original beta version. Thats why we're being extra careful with it. When we did that old update, the update program itself crashed while trying to convert the old messages to the new board format. Thats why we ended up losing some posts. We don't know if the 2.1 to 2.2. update will try to convert the posts again or not, but we want to play it safe just in case.

do you really want to start a new post war?!?!?!?

I know. If it makes any difference, I did debate for a while whether I should have hit the "post reply" button or not.

Seriously, if nobody cares if we start the board over, then it would be much easier to do that. We kind of figured everyone would want to keep the old posts thats why we are going to the trouble of trying to make sure that happens when we upgrade.
Or what we could do if everyone is ok wth it is delete threads that have not been posted in for weeks or months. It would affect thread count, but maybe it would help secure the current threads by deleting those old old ones.
so..
1. Try and keep all posts and threads while upgrading
2. Delete old threads when upgrading
3. Clean the slate while upgrading
Discuss...

I'm nostalgic for the old posts, but if they really get in the way of progress then I say let 'em go!
