Wakachiwaka wonders if a pilgrimage to the Family Bookstore in Mission Hills would prove fruitful - probably not, knowing his luck.

Thank you for the CD notes... |

>>"Okay, I got the new Larry version of HD in the mail today. After my first listen, here's my thoughts:..."
What you have posted is very much appreciated. What is really too bad is that this is the kind of thing I want liner notes for -- after all look at the Anthology series of the Beatles where Lewisohn gives us some details of this take/variation/mix. Of course, Larry may not be the best person to describe what it is we're hearing.

RE: Thank you for the CD notes... |

When I think about it, this is kind of a colossal mistake on his part. He could have advertised this as alternate mixes, rather than the hype he used, and I think there would be significant interest on it's own merits. I was not crazy about purchasing this -- essentially a duplicate of what I got before + 5 -- but if it is alternate takes and what-not, that changes things. You know the market for this are the DA fans, so why not advertise something that would interest them??
But some of his releases have been kind of strange. I remember "The Sky is Falling" has mostly what was on the LP except one cut was exchanged for a live version (if my memory is correct). What's up with that?
I don't know if he deliberately cultivates an aura of mystery and mercurial behavior, but alot of times it just seems head-shakingly strange.

Actually, TSIF was the same except that there were some bonus tracks and two of the original songs were replaced with shorter, inferior new mixes. (I went & got the original LP versions of the songs on CDR. It was a lot of trouble but worth it.)

I am listening to HD for the first time and I'm still not sure about it. I loved Shotgun Angel, and was told I would like HD, but not sure yet.
I'll let you know.

It makes me sad that Larry, after all this time, can't not be a stereotypical record exec.

OK, "same except" comes down to "not the same." Happy now?

i sent a note to LN's site and I think LN himself too, taking them to task for the poor quality of the release and the way that it happened, avoiding a joint project with DA. of course i haven't heard anything back yet.
Larry Norman just seems to be a wacko these days. at least he isn't accused of killing anyone like Phil Spector, and isn't trying to change colors or do other things like the grand pedobino.

I listened to HD over the weekend and really enjoyed it.
I really like the quality of Terry's vocals on this one.
Very nice.

Ya know, people just can't be happy with accepting the music as being something different, or something new, without all this negative criticism.
Just be happy that it is, for the most part, something that hasn't been heard before and accept it as that. If it is to expensive, then don't buy it.
Way to many complaints coming from this thread.
How is that for taking someone to task!!

^^ no doubt if the history was different, Curly would have a good point. NOt that we shouldn't listen somewhat to the comment, but there is a lot more going on than different music at a high price. As it is...well, that is marketing. THe issue is something else...

Well, if Larry had advertised his 'new' HD as something different or something new, that would be a different story (we're talking about the original HD songs here). I wanted good quality versions of the original songs, and that's what I thought I was paying for. Not some cobbled together alternate takes that were poorly mastered.
I've thought of sending Larry and his team a note several times, but then I realize it would accomplish nothing. Larry is as Larry does. I've been stung for the last time.

I'm coming from the angle that I have never heard HD before and I'm trying to evaluate it as the album after Shotgun Angel.
I'm kind of leaning towards the HD Cd isn't all that great, quality or not.

different? new? not really
how many people really want multiple versions of the songs, especially if care is not taken to make them sound as good as possible? for $25 at that.
my biggest beef is LN still proclaims to be a good Christian and all that and it seems he has gone around DA, after being in talks and giving them indication he wanted to do a joint project. i don't have any use for a publicly double-minded man such as that.
people would be better off getting the DA Bootleg '82 if they wanted to hear some of the HD songs, and wait until DA comes out with their "sessions" version of HD.
the biggest fans are often the biggest critics ... sometimes taken as complaining ... get used to it.
