My history at Trinity wasn't pretty. Actually, I had a blast. In the first couple months, I started a band with some other guys from Minn, Wis, and Mich. I had way more fun playing music with those guys than going to class. As a result, my GPA suffered. I was put on accademic probation for the next semester. I didn't learn my lesson. The band still rated higher than Survey of the Old Testament. My GPA that semester was worse - .5. Yes, that was point 5. I was not allowed to come back to the school. And, it took me about ten years to pay for those two semesters.
Now, that's something to be proud of. Needless to say, my kids won't hear that story for a good long time.

I would totally agree!!!
but stick around-
you'll flop like a fish before its all said and done.
Actually - we did rather do this a while back(see carls lil smarty aleck note)
but there are a few newbies and other who chimed in- and I think its the bomb to see how we indeed did get sucked into the vortex of this particular
"eddie" - from all corners and edges.

Chicago or suburbs?
If in Chicago, I would guess North Park. Suburbs, Wheaton.
Am I close?

Wow, great location but kinda restrictive. I had some friends that went there a couple years before you. When the student handbook said that hair could not touch your ears or collar, one friend kept the back short and grew the front down past his chin. They didn't like him too much there.

Ha, this reminds me of my own "tease" with going to Bible school. I'll try not to get too long-winded (this is, afterall, a "how did you find da" thread).
:::flashback to 1984-85:::
The person who was instrumental in getting me to open up to God was a young lady who came from an extremely fundamentalist background. How fundamentalist, you might ask??? How about that good ol' Bob Jones University fundamentalism! I spent my first year of being a Christian in a church that was absolutely against everything. But not knowing any better, I stuck with it.
Well, this young lady and I became an item, and even became engaged at one point. Before we had met, she had already had plans to go to BJU, so she did. I went through many steps in becoming a student there myself, and had we not broken up I probably would've. I even went and spent a week there with her and you talk about repression...HOLY COW, were these people strict. Gals could only wear dresses, guys had to have hair above the ears, absolutely no physical contact between the opposite sex (including hand-holding), no televisions were allowed whatsoever (in fact, during my visit some guy got in trouble for using his computer monitor to watch the Super Bowl). I could go on and on. Needless to say, I thank God that he kept me from making that mistake...both with her and with that school.

That was a really cool story, thanks for sharing!
I do wonder, though - do these same people you refer to that are legalistic with music go to Mardi Gras, or is that a totally different area? |
Oh no! Mardi Gras is for the "heathens". I guess what I mean by the "legalistic" part is that people are a little frightened about music that is actually honest and real. They like things to be safe. They don't want to have to take the time to find out what people are saying in their music. Much like contemporary Christian music labels. There are quite a bit of people like myself who are just ignorant of bands like DA, who would like them a lot if they only knew. After a few months listening and learning about DA, I realized that the local slightly "countrified" Christian radio station actually played Shotgun Angel every now and then. That was actually the first time I heard any DA, but didn't know who they were. I was shocked to make that discovery, seeing that I'm not crazy about that song.

Glad to see we have another fan down here. Now if we can find a few more maybe we can get in on the next BBQ tour or somethin'! Welcome aboard.

Eunice? I actually work in Opelousas, just down 190 from you. I grew up in Mississippi, but now make Lafayette home (not because of a woman, at least not that I know of).
Very funny about the BBQ tour. I think we got some work to do for that, which is a shame because we would have to travel quite a ways to see them live.

I recall seeing DA stuff through the 80's in jr high and high school, but I was mostly into Petra, D&K, MWS, etc. at that time. I think there was even an old 8-track of one of the DA albums in our church's youth group room.
The first song I heard from DA was Kalhoun, played by a college friend on his Saturday afternoon radio show on the campus radio station. I had already started branching out in the 90s with the Choir, 77s, and some of the newer SoCal bands (PrayerChain, Mortal, etc.) by the time I heard DA, and my friend was a big fan of Terry's music. I think I actually won a cassette of Kalhoun from my DJ friend by calling into the show (its not really that difficult to win the giveaways when there's only a handful of listeners).
From there, I further started getting into Terry via the Lost Dogs and have been filling in my DA/SE/TST collection ever since. Motorcycle has a special place in my collection because it was the first CD I ever purchased.
