Did anybody notice this eBay auction item:
TST's Loose Ends:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEDW%3AIT&rd=1
(not sure if that link works for you or not. I sometimes bid on things that I know I won't get just so I can easily track how much it sells for.)
US $305.25
Holy smoke! It's the most expensive TST-DA-Eddies-etc CD auction I've ever seen! I've never even seen the Alarma Chronicles Bookset go for that much!
Cheers!

Crazy.
Maybe Terry should start selling them himself.

If anyone who has it wants to burn me a copy, I'd be happy to pay for S&H and send Uncle Terry a check for the equivalent of CD purchases...

I think we bought one when it was originally the Stunt Approved bootleg series...maybe we could talk to Terry and see if he wants us to print like a few hundred and make them available here. We had talked to him a while back about maybe doing a series of 'back room trax' like Phil Keaggy used to do through his fan club... only instead of cassettes do CDRs. Theres stuff around that is not major release worthy but still cool to hear, could price them $5 or something. Make them a limited 'special' series. Anyone be interested in that? Could pull out some soundboard live shows and stuff..

We could also make available the signed photos of Terry Taylor when he was 'working on his muscles'...

We had a while back assisted in getting Terry a multitrack recorder and some nice mics so he could demo things a little better than his old 80's cassette recorder he lugged around. (which I think he said bit the dust)
At the time we also had talked to him about maybe doing some Bob Dylan type 'basement tapes' ...something very raw and maybe get a lot of fan input such as track requests or even album cover artwork. He could do a small series..of sort of underground things that didn't cost a lot to make but still had the potential to be very interesting. Maybe weird covers of things or old traditional songs or who knows. Newly recorded versions of demo songs he wrote in the 70s...it basicaly could be anything. Then it could be topped off with a few vintage demos or live cuts. Very, very underground. Maybe there could even be funny challenges to see if he could do it.. request a country version of a doppelganger song or something. Its an idea thats still out there, Terry liked the idea...its one of many that get discussed. A lot of it is a matter of timing.

hehe. Thats how I feel too. Theres a lot of things that can be done,
and some take less financial commitment, or less time commitment on Terry's part. But they still could be really cool, and also assist in supporting the things we all want to see like new DA records.

Hey, have you thought about doing mp3 downloads of "extra" songs??
I noticed that The Choir is doing mp3 downloads for sale of nearly all their music. It would be agreat way to make the rare "extras" available and not have all the production costs associated with putting them on media.
Cheers!

We've certainly thought about it and have explored a few options... I'd like to talk to Dan about how helpful the downloads have been.
I think it would work well for certain things, but I'd really hate to replace actual reissues with downloads.. it seems like such a cheap way to put out what we all would consider to be a classic album.

If there was no other way to get some of that music and it was offered for purchase through download, I would download some of the songs. If, after downloading, I really like the songs and a reissue becomes available, I would purchase that too. There is nothing like having the actual CD and liner notes.

Yeah I am kind of the same way. Another aspect that a lot of people always forget is that some of the albums are not owned by the band. The owners of the material may have restrictions on how Terry and the guys can reissue it. They may allow him to license the material with restrictions on how its packaged or distributed.

sounds like a lot of good ideas here, I think many of us are interested in the old rough cuts and live songs.

So...
The companies that own the masters to some of the DA albums won't allow (or put restrictions on) Terry reissuing his own work. Aside from the big issue of how the music industry screws artists out of various rights and royalties, I have to make the obvious observation: they are not doing anything with those masters. It's like KMG not allowing Jeffery K. to reissue "Ten Songs" for a long time. For what reason? Was KMG going to do a big rollout of the entire Adam Again catalog? Not bloody likely.
For the most part, these bands didn't sell Petra-sized amounts of product when they were new. (They should have sold millions, but that's not my point) They certainly aren't now. So, they're just going to let all of these master recordings rot while us fans wonder if we can make CD copies or downloads, and wait and wait and wait to be ministered to by some really great music. Did the greatest hits releases really do enough business to warrant exercising such narrow control over the albums? I understand the costs of publishing, manufacturing, etc. and I do not begrudge the labels get their cut. But now, it would seem like there is no cut to be had. The parable of the rich fool in Luke 12 comes to mind. You can store and store and store it up, but for what? All this "bread" (music) should be cast upon the water...
With the greatest hits packages of LD, DA & AA deleted (I'm assuming), there is no in-print back catalog product for any of these bands. Which, by the way, makes me appreciate how all of these bands operate, and the people (like the Audioris) who do all of this leg work to get the music out. Thank you guys.

Yea it can be frustrating. The way that kind of thing works is that when a band cannot afford to put enough money into a release themselves, they get some label that is willing to do it. That label invests a lot of their money into it, if the album doesn't sell well..the label still wants to make their money back.
So you end up with a situation where the investor is protecting what they 'bought' or paid for. Its not that they are wanting to be mean or something to the artist. If the artist puts the album out in some cheap format, the label thinks that ruins any chance of finding a way to make some money back later. Its protecting their investment.
Thats why labels ask for a certain hunk of money to license what they own. They either want to get their money that way, or wait until the market is right to release it themselves.
For us, the much better solution is putting things out on our own so we own it. And when I see we I mean the band. The band can reprint and do whatever they want with anything we have helped put out. The Buechners DVD...the band is restriction free, its paid for, they can do whatever they please with it. Even after we no longer work with them, as far as we are concerned they own it.
Some restrictions certain 'owners' of material may have, may be just that its reissued nice. I know Terry has in the past worked out deals where he has done a favor such as producing a kids series or something for a label.
Some owners may be more willing to work with him personally than a company or label wanting to put something out. Its all just business politics.
But if Terry can put out some indipendant releases he can fund whatever he wants. Those things can help with the generation of income to deal with companies.
If anyone has ideas of something that can be done, feel free to post em. We will collect them and send em off to Terry.
