Because Galations 5 is about seeing things from a perspective of the world or the perspective of God, the choice of how you look at these things. It is the ultimate definition of perspective. Are you thankful to God for what you are given or do you get angry for not getting enough. The old cliche' parents used to use to get their kids to eat.. "there are kids starving in japan.. eat your dinner." Are you thankful for whatever food you have, or are you ungrateful and wasteful.

The song IS about perspective, and being as it is written by Terry Taylor it will convey his Spiritual views. The album as a whole pretty much runs this theme from the very first song. The first song sets the tone, that everything depends on how we choose to look at things.

My original post was a response to the use of lines of this song that were used more than once to respond to me in this manner;

Someone posts something, I respond offering a differend view.. and someone will post "I guess it all depends on how you look at these things.." as if the song is conveying the morally relativistic view that everyone has their perspective and all of them are right... or that we can't know. I would not of posted what I did had a couple of people not used the lines this way to me.

I remember talking to Terry about the difference between Swirling Eddies music and Daniel Amos music and he said something to the effect of how his songs will always convey his belief, his message, and that message is a spiritual one. He said he will always be true to that. (And Dennis, thanks for posting those interviews... I remember them, I typed most of them in myself.)

This theme of how the world is contrary to the spirit is a common one in his songs; Driving in England, Mall All Over the World, Real Girls, As The World Turns, Its Sick, and so on. The song "Thick Skin" is quite autobiographical, that he tries to convey his spiritual message through his songs, and he writes them purposefully to convey it in a little bit different way.

When it comes to "the Midget, The Speck and the Molecule", the album is a pointed message for people to have perspective, and not just any perspective, a Godly one. Even the title song is about getting further and further from the message, that none of us really can ultimately escape. I knew a pastor that once said, that "what you are full of will spill out when you are bumped.." A paraphrase of "you will know them by their fruit..."
If a preorder, or a messageboard post, can cause you to go into a fit of rage, or any other relatively insignificant thing.. maybe you need a little different perspective. In our culture we can loose our temper if we wait too long at Mc Donalds, or if someone drives too slow on the highway. We have grown out of touch with what real suffering or persecution is. "Faith to move a mountain...", is the size of a mustard seed, how little is our faith in God if we lose it over ridiculously small insignificant things?

Are we thankful for what we get? Are we pessimistic? Are we kind or angry? Have we slandered our brothers or lifted them up in prayer? Are we focused on the world/ourselves or those less fortunate? These questions and this perspective is pretty much always present in Terry's music, and I would say even more bluntly on this particular album considering the situation.

ok - I guess what I meant is I dont want to talk about it anymore.

I will try to jump this thread- theres other DA music to discuss that I think is more interesting and easier to dissect. (maybe)

I came home today and found, waiting for me, a copy of "Midget"!! It was sent off on 9th August, 2008 by International First-Class postage. (Not airmail, I guess, as it took 5 weeks to get here)

Thanks for sending it. I have played it and enjoyed it! (no autograph, though...)

I preordered back around March 2007, but when it was finally released I ordered a copy of the "Hats" set and "Prickly Heat Radio Players" along with "Midget" to save DA.com postage costs. That was near the end of July, 2007.

What a saga this has been, trying to get these CD's. Well, I have one! It looks like the system works as far as stuff actually arriving here in NZ, but I don't like the idea of waiting another 6 weeks or more for my other stuff. I was planning to order the new DFBB from here when it came out and having that included with my other stuff. Will that work out ok for you, Jason and Eric?

However you want to do it is fine.

It glows with warmth that its still taking so long to get there, but at least it is getting there eventually now.

Airmail is actually gone... it turned into First Class International not long ago.

Yeah the problem we run into is this;

http://postcalc.usps.gov/

Choose New Zealand, package and make it about 8 ounces or so and see the choices we have. By far, the cheapest method estimated delivery says "varies". They basically can't even estimate how long it will take to ship something like that. But our other choices are pretty expensive. We may have to start charging international customers $30 or more for shipping if we want some kind of realistic delivery time.

The second problem is customs, they open packages and look inside and if they decide from whatever standard they have that something is not right, they don't send the package on. The are really suspicious of internaional CD shipments because of bootleging.

I don't know... pay $15,000-25,000 or so for the download rights for a recording and make a couple of hundred dollars from the handful of folks that want to download.

I'm sorry if I come off as a skeptic, but the other bands in this arena that have tried the download route haven't made squat. If it could be done as an extra deal - in addition to a regular CD reissue, it would be fine. But most labels these days want to negotiate download rights separately from reissue rights.

I guess I was thinking joey was talking about future projects. Assuming those would be controlled by the band.

Ahh, sorry - yes yes.. Midget is entirely owned by the band. Unfortunately, the bulk of the catalog isn't though.

There is a desire to do something with downloads for the Stunt-owned material. It just hasn't been a priority due to the poor download sales reports from other bands within the family. Additionally, 95% of the email requests we receive are for CDs over downloads easy. So, its something that everyone wants to do because well.. why not? But, no one has high expectations.

I'd rather have a CD and case than a download. I am used to paying at least a CD worth in freight from other US suppliers so if you up your fees it won't stop me buying.

Hopefully some things sent out in August to me will be there this week.

I recently got the midget, the speck and the molecule for my birthday.

Nothing really profound to add to what has already been said. But I'd like to say that it's a really great album!

I love the overarching theme of perspective, and it's one of the best Terry Taylor albums musically. I've only had it for two weeks, and it's already one of the favorite albums in my "collection" (term used loosely).

I gave this a listen again today - it has stood up pretty well over time. The final track always brings to close to tears...
