Never liked his music, and his covers of Hound of Heaven on the HD CD stunk!
Anybody else feel the same way?

I do like Larry. However, his late 60's and early 70's stuff was by far his best.

The general consensus is.... |
|
.... we like Larry, but if you don't use the word "dink" at least once, you haven't discussed him properly....

I've never met him personally.
He doesn't live far from where I do.
I like some of his music..."Out There Somewhere" from off of "Home At Last" ~ "profound & touching"...

I got started in Christian Rock with LN. Upon this Rock and In Another Land are classics, IMHO. He produces a lot of crap, too- he's got about 40 CDs and many are regurgitations of past success. I'm really sorry to hear he's so sick these days.
I get the impression he'll be going home soon.

Yeah I think he's being called too
I hope I didn't sound negative but I really do think he messed up "Hound".
I still love the guy as a brother in Christ.
That cover of "Hound" still bothers me though.

I enjoy his cover of Hound of Heaven. The slow 'lounge' version that is.
Larry is a brother, therefore I love him...He is very ill, therefore I grieve and groan with him for the coming of our Lord to renew us all to our full-realization of the beauty of our inheritance as Sons of God.
Let us pray for our brother in the Lord!
Let us not harden our hearts toward him, but let us show him the same compassion and forbearance that our Lord has shown unto us.
Would we have done anything different if we were in his shoes, with his temptations. Perhaps yes. Perhaps no.
Look to our Lord. Would he rebuke? Perhaps "Yes!". Would he then turn to love and nourish the bones he had earlier broken? Definately "Yes!".
Our gracious Lord is our example. Let us not forget this one, sole thruth.

Mountain Dewing all over Larry for Hound of Heaven is like Mountain Dewing all over Terry for his crappy version (in my opinion) of Vegetables, or the Lost Dogs for their sterile singing on the Making God Smile tribute.
As to Larry. I'll agree that his ground breaking atuff was killer, and that he's been resting on some pretty impressive laurels.
He was a legitimate draw live. With little promotion he'd fill up a medium sized venue. So he was still hitting the mark.
I hope he hangs on a while longer.
Now if the Tuxedo Clad Megastar could be called home ...

What I lay down in my posts I lay down there for all to read, including myself .
I, of all people, need to be humbled as well. For knowledge 'puffs up', but love 'lifts up'.
Please be lifted up my dear brother, Driver8.

I guess all my taste is in my mouth!
but anyway- Larry has (had) his moments, but larrys a dink.
Can you handle both?

I was just making a point. I don't mind their contributions.
I don't know Larry well enough to call him a dink. A great friend of mine spent a few weeks on the road with him and was totally blown away by Larry in terms of his generosity and how open he was to his own failings and ego.
What really concerns me is your request.
Are you asking that I handle Larry's dink?

Larry Norman ...well
I have seen him a few times live, Great shows, great tunes, funny talk etc. Loooong 3+ hours...
I have wondered about a few of his songs...
some wondered in interviews about him & his veiws etc...???
so, my opinion is
he made some Great CD's
he put on some Great show's
he wrote some Great songs ( I wish we'd all been ready )
he was a Great influence in Music & CCM
so over all Yes I like him. but not all...

I love alot of Larry's stuff, especially from the early days. Then again, as some have pointed out, he hasn't really put out any new stuff for a loooooong time. So aside from him being THE pioneer of 'Christian Rock', his lack of creativity over the past decade or so is a shame.
I also know that there was some sort of rift between him and Stonehill and DA and others at some point in the past. I never heard the details, and while the 'gossippy' side of me wondered what the deal was, the 'leave well enough alone' side knew that it wasn't any of my business. I just knew it bummed me out that artists I respected didn't get along for whatever reason. Oh well, I figure it'll all get ironed out in the end. I did see a picture of Larry and Randy singing at C-Stone a year or two ago, so perhaps some of that water has indeed gone under the bridge.
I knew Larry had a heart attack or something several years ago, but was under the impression that he was doing better. But hearing what you guys are saying, am I to believe he is gravely ill now? Please enlighten.
SG

I really enjoy Larry's music and would like to have a lot of it on CD - all I have is re-mixing the planet.
I do enjoy Larry's hound of heavens but think it was a bad business decison to put them on the HD release.
He has had bad health recently but seems tobe OK at the moment - at least looking at the activity on his web site.
There was bad blood bewteen Larry and Randy/DA but a few years ago they all forgave each other and sang together at c-stone (I think) and Larry was on Randy's latest CD.

I can honestly say I am a fan of Larry. His earlier material was his best stuff, although his newest album "Tourniquet" is really pretty good. I liked Hound of Heaven (the more up-tempo version) but I agree it wasn't a good idea to put it on the Horrendous Disc re-issue.
So yeah, I dig him!
